ExpressVPN Review

Factors we’ve Considered for This Best VPN services

If we’re listing these 10 VPNs here, I think it’s only fair if you know the criteria we analyzed and took into account before deciding which ones were or weren’t worth being on this list.

  • No. of available countries to choose from.
  • Effect on speed.
  • Encryption (Connection Protocols and Types).
  • Logs policy.
  • User interface.
  • Additional bonuses (Such as SmartDNS, Simultaneous connections, SmartPlay, P2P etc).
  • Pricing plans.

So without beating around the bush, let’s get down to scribbling this best VPN service providers list post and get you some real options to choose from.

  • NordVPN

Website: https://www.nordvpn.com

NordVPN is listed at the #1 position on this best VPN services list post, because of our own long-term personal experience with it. It truly has passed all VPN tests that we could put it up to, and with flying colors.

Let’s start with the number of available countries and servers to choose from, NordVPN has one of the strongest bases with over 61 countries and 5600 established servers for us to opt for.

Encryption is doubled up as well, literally. It features a “Double VPN” algorithm which encrypts our traffic not once, but twice for a Fort-Knox like security. Also offers a P2P server. It supports OpenVPN (TCP/UDP) protocols, along with IKEv2. The company is also trying to implement the WireGuard protocol in the recent future.

Cyber Deal:  Get NotdVPN today and Get 68% off + 3 Month Free

Apart from that, it uses AES and 256-bit encryption keys to encrypt data, additionally its “CyberSec” feature blocks all malicious and harmful websites and ads automatically! After that, if we take “speed” into consideration, as our individual NordVPN review points out as well, NordVPN has non-existent effect on speed, and totally makes the fact “A VPN slows your connection down look like a myth.

It has a “No logs” policy hence providing for utmost anonymity and privacy. Now many VPNs out there do record logs, and/or co-operate with the govt. If need arise. With NordVPN, considering they don’t have the logs to begin with, there’s nothing to be shared, and that just means as much anonymity for you as possible.

Moreover, it’s one of the very few VPNs on the planet which have their No logs policy “audited” by independent third-parties.Their No Logs Policy has been proved to be true. NordVPN is based out of the US or EU jurisdictions. Hence those governments can’t force NordVPN to abide by their laws.

And it’s brimming with additional bonuses as well, there’s an automatic kill-switch to prevent any unprotected internet access, P2P Optimized servers, and SmartPlay ensures seamless streaming experience without compromising speed or quality. As for bandwidth or server-switching, feel free to use as much data as you wish to, and change your IP as many times as you need, there’s no restriction.

Did we mention it also lets you connect as many as 6 devices simultaneously to the same account? Yeah, there’s that as well. Got a problem? Their live-chat is available 24X7 helping with both technical and non-technical queries you might have.

Furthermore, NordVPN is again one of the few VPNs capable of unblocking Netflix and other streaming services. NordVPN can unblock Netflix libraries in U.S, Canada, Denmark, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Netherlands and Spain.

Finally, for the Pricing Plans, it’s not heavy on the pockets either. It has three packages, each with the same features, but the price differs based on the payment-cycle. You can totally make your payments using Bitcoin, keep your anonymity eh?

NordVPN pricing

ProsCons
  • No major cons (That’s what makes it the “best”, isn’t it?)

I’m pretty sure you’ve got an idea why it deserves to be crowned as (arguably) the #1 VPN on this best VPN providers.

  • SurfShark VPN

Website: https://surfshark.com

Shurfshark 83% off and 3 month free

SurfShark VPN does go with its name and brings some shark-like features (aggressive, never-seen-before with other VPNs, extremely advanced) to the table.

For starters, it’s one of the very (very) few VPNs in the industry, if not the only one; which allows for Unlimited simultaneous connections. Meaning you simply purchase the VPN once and use it on as many devices as you want without any restrictions.

Contrary to the fact  that even the best VPNs out there allow for a maximum of 10 simultaneous connections (as far as my experience goes).

Then it also is one of the first VPNs I’ve ever seen which offers “Multi hop“. It’s a feature which lets users connect to “more than one countries” for a single connection, so your traffic is actually routed through two countries rather than just one providing for a lot more anonymity and privacy than all other single-country VPNs.

Cyber Deal:  Grab SurfShark today and Get 83% off +  3 Month Subscription Free

Its Camouflage mode makes sure our ISPs can’t detect us using VPNs and hence some content which is blocked to VPNs in general too can be accessed.

Even has a more advanced, brute force-like mode called the “NoBorders Mode” (trademarked!) it lets SurfShark users penetrate heavier and stricter firewalls and access content, this is where VPNs which lack this mode would fail but SurfShark won’t.

As for the encryption obviously it relies on the Military-grade 256bit encryption. However not everything is shiny and gold with SurfShark. it lacks majorly when it comes to connection protocols and only supports IKev2/IPSec and OpenVPN. All other more commonly used protocols are absent.

It however doesn’t limit users on Speed, bandwidth or server-switching hence no matter how long you’ve been using the VPN for; how much data has been transmitted, or how many times you’ve switched/changed your IP addresses; the experience would still be the same as it was when the VPN was first used.

It’s also armed with DNS-Leak protection and Kill-switch; the former ensures that the system always routes the internet connections via the VPN and never without it, the latter makes sure internet is only accessed over the VPN, in case the VPN connection isn’t available the entire Internet connection is shut off automatically.

Shurfshark Pricing Plan

Obviously none of this would matter without a “No Logs Policy“, which they do offer.

ProsCons
  • Unlimited Simultaneous Connections
  • NoBorder Mode.
  • Camouflage Mode.
  • Limited connection protocols.

  • TorGuard VPN

Website: https://torguard.net/

Tor Guard again puts quite a few names on this best VPN services list to shame, with its army of 3000+ servers.

After servers, the list of available countries to choose from is what we look at, and there as well it presents us with a list of 50+ countries.

It uses AES 256 and AES 128 bit encryption for encrypting our traffic, couple that with its “Perfect Forward Secrecy” (TLS) and we’ve got ourselves the digital invisibility cloak.

Get Your Anonymous VPN with Torguard

It has really taken care of additional bonuses as well by arming itself with DPI Bypass, anti DNS/IPv6 leaks, ad & malware blocking etc.

Does offers 5 different connection protocols- OpenVPN, iKEV2, PPTP, L2TP/IPSec, and SSTP, which honestly are the highest in quantity compared to other options on this best VPN services list.

Tor Guard also allows for upto 5 devices to be connected to the same account simultaneously. And obviously also features unlimited speed and bandwidth.

Again, it does take a toll on your speed and it’s noticeable if you’re on anything less than a 4G connection in the least.

Tor Guard is really strict on privacy and has clearly stated that they do not keep any logs of any kind whatsoever.

It’s the only VPN on this best VPN services list offering 4 different pricing plans:

Torguard Price Plan

ProsCons
  • 3000+ Servers, No logs policy.
  • 50+ countries to choose from.
  • 5 different connection protocols.
  • 5 simultaneous device connections.
  • Not very cheap.
  • Does effect speed.

  • Express VPN

Website: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Express VPN has made quite a name for itself, and I’m pretty sure if you’ve been working around VPNs lately, this best VPN providers article isn’t your first introduction to Express VPN.

As far as list of countries goes, it beats every other name on this best VPN services piece, it offers as many as 94 different countries to choose from. That’s more than NordVPN or IPVanish as well.

The 94 countries further offer more than one city to connect to, providing 145 servers to be exact. Now that truly is a lot of options!

ExpressVPN doesn’t have any significant or noticeable effect on your speed, and as for the encryption level it uses AES 256-bit encryption and comes bundled up with 4 top-notch connection protocols, namely OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, SSTP, PPTP.

It features a “No connection and activity logs” policy, although it does keep technical logs (source: https://www.expressvpn.com/what-is-vpn/policy-towards-logs )

The kept logs include:

  • Nothing personal or sensitive.
  • App version.
  • VPN server choice.
  • Amount of data transferred.

So it’s not a strictly “no logs policy”, but even then these logs can’t be linked back to any individual in any way.

The user experience is extremely smooth and easy. As for additional bonuses, it lets us connect to 3 devices with a single account simultaneously.

Finally, the pricing plans of Express VPN are in my own personal opinion quite justified:

ExpressVPN Pricing Plan

ProsCons
  • Largest list of countries to choose from on this complete list.
  • 4 connection protocols available.
  • 3 simultaneous devices allowed.
  • Keeps technical logs.
  • IPVanish

Website: https://www.ipvanish.com

IpVanish, without doubt, deserves a seat at this best VPN services table, and the only reason it fell short of the #1 position is that it has a slightly lower number of servers and simultaneous connection privileges when compared to NordVPN.

It too, similar to NordVPN proudly offers 61+ countries to choose from, and is run off 1300+ servers across the globe.

As for the number of IP addresses, you can’t ever run out of IP addresses to use with its 40,000+ strong database of shared IPs.

IpVanish too offers unlimited server switching and bandwidth like most other VPNs on this list of the best VPN services (that’s one of the factors which makes these VPNs the best).

It recently updated its simultaneous connections policy and now allows as many as 10 simultaneous connections. This is one of the highest number of connections we’ve seen so far.

Encryption is unbreakable with 256 bit AES military grade encryption, coupled with as many as 3 different connection protocols- PPTP, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec.

It also supports Unlimited P2P traffic and SOCKS5 proxy. The customer support is commendable as well. IP Vanish goes beyond the “VPN” when protecting you. Now every VPN plan comes with SugerSync, it’s a kind of Dropbox alternative which protects your data and keeps it safe on the cloud.

The user-interface is simple and easy, and obviously, it too has a “zero traffic logs” policy.

Moving towards the pricing plans, IPVanish offers three different pricing plans, again the price-difference is a result of the payment cycle and not features:

ProsCons
  • Good encryption.
  • 60+ countries to choose from.
  • No logs policy, 3 connection protocols.
  • Unlimited devices supported.
  • 7-Day Money-back Guarantee.
  • No major cons, although they could try adding more servers.

  • Buffered VPN

Website: https://buffered.com/

The third contestant up for this race of the best VPN services is BufferVPN. For starters, it provides for as many as 46 countries to choose from.

Even though that number isn’t as high as that of NordVPN or IPVanish, it’s still more than enough.

The User-interface is modern and simple, it shows you your download and uploaded speed, along with total downloaded and uploaded data as well.

As for additional bonuses, it provides for unlimited bandwidth, speed and server-switching.

So doesn’t matter how much data you use, or how many times you change your IP address the speed won’t be reduced at any point.

Connecting to the VPN doesn’t reduce your overall internet speed either, although that’s not completely true and some fluctuations might occur, but they’re not significant enough for most of us to notice.

The one fact I was slightly disappointed with is that it supports only OpenVPN as its connection protocol.

Obviously, they’ve justified why they use only OpenVPN, and I must say all the reasons are all logical and acceptable, but even then considering how other VPNs offer OpenVPN as well as couple other connection protocols, it clearly is something they could improve.

There’s the no logs policy in place as well, but apart from that there aren’t any other special perks. It allows for 5 devices to be connected simultaneously to the same account.

Coming down to their pricing plans, I must say considering their features, they could’ve charged less.

ProsCons
  • Acceptable number of available countries.
  • No logs policy.
  • Unlimited bandwidth, speed, server-switching.
  • Pricing isn’t justified considering the features.
  • Connection protocol is limited only to OpenVPN.

  • Strong VPN

Website: https://strongvpn.com/

As the name suggests, it clearly is a Strong VPN choice. For starters, it offers a list of 24 countries to choose from.

And among the countries as well, you can choose from different cities, this makes sure that no one single server in any country gets overloaded, and hence the total number of available cities is 44.

It uses 2048-bit encryption, one of the strongest encryption protocols known to man. The user-interface isn’t very “decorative” per say, or modern. But that by no way means it’s complicated.

It’s like a simplistic, no-fuss thing, so in a nutshell, it’s good.

One of the factors which makes it a deserving candidate to be listed as one of the choices for this best VPN services is the fact that it too offers unlimited bandwidth and speed.

Talking of speed, every package of StrongVPN comes bundled up with StrongDNS, which makes sure that you get the fastest possible internet speed, can bypass geographical restrictions and have the liberty you seek, without compromising your security.

As for connection protocols, it supports PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, OpenVPN, and IPSec, which is a good list to choose from in my experience.

The no logs policy is included as well, which goes without saying at this point I suppose, and it allows for 5 devices to be connected simultaneously.

There aren’t many additional bonuses (apart from StrongDNS), but that’s acceptable considering they’re pretty logical and lightweight on the pocket with their pricing-plans:

ProsCons
  • 5 connection protocols.
  • 2048-bit encryption, Cheap price.
  • 5 simultaneous connections.
  • Strong DNS included, No logs policy.
  • As of now, it offers only 24 countries to choose from. We could use a more extensive list.

  • Private Internet Access

Website: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/

This is the cheapest, most pocket-friendly VPN solution for you on this whole best VPN services.

Well, that doesn’t in any way mean it’s in any way lesser than the other “most expensive” options over here.

In fact, it beats even the #1 option on this list when it comes to number of established servers, with 3272 functioning servers, compared to only 1328 servers of NordVPN.

The number of countries to choose from is 25, it might not be extremely long, but I’m sure that’s more than enough, especially considering their pricing plans.

The only downside? It slightly, negligible, feebly does effect the overall internet speed, just a tad bit, but it does.

The user interface is obviously simple, if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be here on this list of the best VPN software, no use in listing a tool which might be extremely feature-rich but with a clumsy interface, isn’t that right?

Unlimited bandwidth and multiple gateways come in handy as well.

As for connection protocols, it supports OpenVPN, IPSec/L2TP, PPTP, Socks5 proxy. So that tells us it’s pretty secure and you get to choose from a number of these protocols according to your needs (not every connection suits all needs).

It allows 5 devices to be connected to the same account simultaneously and does support P2P as well.

It has a “No traffic logs” policy, although if it extends to other aspects (history, VPN connection time and IPs used etc) isn’t clear from their terms and services.

ProsCons
  • Dirt-cheap.
  • 5 simultaneous devices allowed.
  • 4 connection protocols available.
  • A huge number of servers.
  • Slightly reduces speed.
  • Pure VPN

Website: https://www.purevpn.com/

PureVPN is one of the oldest and most established VPNs  in this industry. For starters, it has 750 servers throughout the globe, and as many as 88,000+ IP addresses! Now that’s what we call options!

As for number of countries, it probably beats every other contender on this best VPN services list by providing over 140+ countries to choose from, and the number rises to 172 if you count the different cities provided for the same countries.

As for encryption, it’s armed with 256-bit military grade encryption, and provides for as many as 5 different connection protocols, namely- OpenVPN, iKEV2, PPTP, L2TP/IPSec, and SSTP.

Moving on to additional bonuses, it has an extra add-on called “Dedicated IP” for those who’re in search for Fort-Knox like security, coupled with Split Tunnelling for extra control.

Another bonus is its “purpose selection” feature, which automatically provides you the best connection settings based on your purpose of using the VPN.

Then there’s the NAT Firewall, DDoS protection, and Kill-switch. So in a nutshell, it’s secure.

Obviously, it also gets us unlimited bandwidth, speed, and server switching. It allows 5 multi-device logins simultaneously.

Even though PureVPN is one of the best VPNs without doubt, it still does throttle the speed a bit like a few other VPNs on this list.

It also has a “No logs policy”, but that excludes “connection time” and “bandwidth used”, so it doesn’t keep logs of anything else except “when” the connection was made, and how much bandwidth that specific connection used. Note that this data is totally anonymous and can’t be linked back to you.

ProsCons
  • 140+ countries.
  • No logs policy.
  • 5 simultaneous connections.
  • 5 connection protocols.
  • Handful additional bonuses.
  • Effects speed.
  • CyberGhost VPN

Website: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/

Cyberghost boasts 1000+ servers, and a country list allowing us to choose from over 30 countries.

The encryption level is fenced with the ever-popular AES 256 bit military grade encryption.

It has 3 connection protocols – OpenVPN, PPTP, IPSec/L2TP, it’s not an extensive list, but it gets the job done.

CyberGhost does have a slightly negative effect on your Internet speed but that can be countered by shifting to a different server and IP which somewhat reduce the effect.

The user-interface has been improved over the years, so it’s pretty easy and newbie-friendly as of now.

Cyberghost also boasts a strict no logs policy, a feature we actively seek in each of the VPNs included on this best VPN service providers.

As for additional bonuses, it offers Double-encryption, along with DNS and IP leak protection.  We’re also allowed to connect 5 devices to a single account.

Unlimited bandwidth and server switching are another one of the features common to every single contender on this best VPN services, so obviously Cyberghost provides for them as well.

It has really concise and simple pricing plans to choose from:

ProsCons
  • 1000+ servers.
  • 30+ Countries to choose from.
  • No logs policy.
  • 5 simultaneous devices allowed.
  • Doesn’t support IKEv2 or SSTP protocols.
  • BulletVPN

Website: https://www.bulletvpn.com/

Black friday nordvpn sale 65% and 3 Month Free

BulletVPN is still an infant, it was launched recently but even then it has managed to garner itself quite the reputation or else it wouldn’t have made this list of the best VPN services considering how there were a plethora of other options for us to choose from.

BulletVPN offers 25+ countries for us to choose from, along with multi-city options for quite a few countries as well.

The user-interface is one of the simplest we’ve ever seen (almost everything can be achieved with 3 clicks at a maximum!)

It’s armed with 5 different connection protocols, PPTP, LT2P/IPSec, OpenVPN, IKEv1, IKEv2.

Also a strict “No logs policy” is maintained. Not to mention that it also supports grants unlimited bandwidth, speed and server-switching. And, allows for up to 3 devices to be connected simultaneously to the same account.

As for additional bonuses, its SmartDNS is a great addition. It let’s us stream and browse restricted content such as Netflix, Hulu, BBC etc without compromising the speed or quality.

ProsCons
  • Satisfactory country list.
  • No logs policy.
  • Free Smart DNS.
  • 3 simultaneous connections allowed.
  • 5 connection protocols.
  • Doesn’t support SSTP
  • VPNSecure

Website: https://www.vpnsecure.me

best VPN services 2019

No company could come up with a more generic name for a “Secure VPN” than VPN Secure, don’t you agree? Their features too are equally impressive.

For starters it has a total of 80 servers in 50 countries. The server-list may not be as extensive as Nord or Express VPN, however the number of choices when it comes to “countries” is no less.

The company was earlier based out of Australia, however after due diligence they recently moved out to Hong Kong, which is a more liberal country when it comes to cyber laws. This directly effects the level of anonymity and privacy it can offer to its customers.

It however isn’t as impressive as most other options on this list and doesn’t support L2TP or IKEv2. The only supported protocols are OpenVPN, SSH Socks5, PPTP and HTTP Proxy. I personally would’ve liked if some more options were added to this list.

They do have a no logs policy. No logs about the user’s IP address-selection, internet usage or any other such detail are kept.

Does feature the Kill-switch which ensures internet can only be accessed over the VPN and not without it. Its “Stealth VPN” is what ‘s of a personal interest and use to me. It’s basically an advanced level of connection capable of bypassing restrictions of highest caliber.

Countries such as China, UAE, Syria have extensive censorship and do not allow VPN traffic. The “Stealth VPN” feature shoots right through the restriction.

P2P and Torrent connections however are supported, this isn’t something that’s as common with other companies. They allow said connections on over 90% of their servers.

There also is the DNS/IPv6 leak protection making sure all connection is routed through the VPN and the system doesn’t leak any information outside of the VPN connection.

As far as simultaneous connections go, 5 of them are supported for one account on the condition that each device is connected to a different server.

There’s absolutely no limit on the server-switching (changing of IP addresses), bandwidth or speed. It also lets users choose their cipher strength, so they can trade security with speed and vice-versa according to their needs.

ProsCons
  • Acceptable country-list.
  • No logs policy.
  • Acceptable speed, Stealth VPN.
  • Limited connection protocols.
  • PerfectPrivacy

Website: https://www.perfect-privacy.com/

best VBN 2019

Perfect Privacy costs a dollar or two more than most other VPNs on this list, but not without providing quality first. For starters it’s a company based out of Switzerland, and there are but few countries with more liberal cyber-laws than the Swiss.

It offers servers in 26 countries, although the exact number of servers isn’t disclosed. The VPN interface isn’t any harder than most other VPNs on this list.

Obviously has a “No logs Policy” which clearly mentions that absolutely no user activity is logged. Although the most impressive feature with it is its support of Unlimited Simultaneous connections alike SurfShark.

Although some exclusive, or rare features which it flaunts include its Multi-Hop feature. Its multi-hop lets you connect to as many as 4 locations for a single connections (and even more over SSH tunnels). You even can choose your entry and exit nodes manually and independently.

NeuroRouting™ is another one of their unique features. It’s an A.I based routing algorithm, which automatically chooses the closest, most secure and overall best route for your traffic. It also makes sure that the traffic stays within the encrypted VPN tunnel for the longest possible time.

TrackStop™ another innovation from the company acts as a filter. It blocks unwanted or untrusted sources, prevents ads and further strengthens protection against tracking.

Obviously Kill-switch and IPv6 protections are available as well. The available connection protocols are OpenVPN, IPSec, IKeV2, SSH2 Tunnel, and PPTP. Proxies such as HTTP and Socks5 are allowed as well.

Apart from providing support via E-mail and Forums, they also do it via Team-Viewer which again is a rarity. It also features an integrated firewall protection.

ProsCons
  • Stealth connections.
  • Unlimited Speed / Server Switching.
  • Unlimited connections.
  • Innovative algorithms.
Slightly more expensive
  • WindScribe

Website: https://windscribe.com/
best VPN 2019

Windscribe for starters brings with itself a different if not exclusive user-interface. As for the features, let’s start with the fact that it’s available cross-platform.

Meaning you can download it for Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android and even Linux! So regardless of what OS you’re on, it’s capable of wrapping your internet connection with its protective features.

It has servers in over 60 countries, and 110 cities! That’s a lot of options. Then there’s the No logs policy, hence no personally identifiable information is kept or stored. The only logs kept are the “time” of when the VPN was last used and the total bandwidth used in last 30days.

It also supports perfect forward secrecy, which makes sure that even a breach in the server’s private keys doesn’t leak out the session private keys and keeps the user data and actions safe.

Then there’s double-hop which lets you connect via two countries and not just one. You can even spoof timezones and not just IP addresses. It also lets users generate a secure link to verify and expose a website’s trackers!

Split personality” is a feature which lets users acquire multiple user agents which reduces fingerprinting. It has a special feature called “R.O.B.E.R.T”. It lets you block ads and trackers, and also individual websites.

One advanced and unique feature it offers is, it lets us turn our desktop computers into protected routers! So that when you share Hotspot from your computers, the protection and features of the VPN are passed over to the other devices connected to the network!

As for connection protocols, it currently supports UDP, TCP, Stealth and IKEv2. Generally it uses AES-256 bit, SHA-512 authorization and 4096-bit RSA key for encryption.

All and any connection outside the VPN are completely blocked, hence no DNS, IPv6, WebRTC or any other kind of leak is possible.

ProsCons
  • ROBERT feature.
  • No Leaks possible.
  • Extensively feature rich.
  • Expensive on monthly plans.
  • Ivacy VPN

Website: https://www.ivacy.com

best VPN services

The Ivacy User-Interface is one of the best I’ve ever seen after NordVPN. It also ticks all the right boxes as far as its qualities as a Best VPN Service Provider go.

Can be used without the actual VPNSecure application via OpenVPN (an Open-source application) simply by downloading the configuration files independently. Does offer a No-Logs policy.

The payment methods are extensive, not just Bitcoin but a wide range of other Cryptocurrencies such as LTC, DASH, ETH and many others are accepted. Fiat modes including but not limited to PayPal, PerfectMoney, Cards, CashU, MobiAmo, NeoSurf, Payza are accepted as well.

Impressive country-list, offers 50+ countries to choose from and over 100+ individual locations. Server-Switching, Speed as well as bandwidth are all unlimited without any restrictions whatsoever. Allows 5 Simultaneous connections.

The connection Protocols are all there, TCP, UDP, L2TP as well as IKeV. The lack of StealthVPN protocol is probably the only downside I could document for this VPN. Although the available protocols seem more than capable of bypassing most if not all restrictions. Pretty secure as well, uses AES-256 bit encryption.

Kill-switch to auto-terminate unsecured connections is available (also on Android devices). Does provide IPv6 Leaks. “Secure DNS” makes sure no DNS requests are being leaked either. Split-Tunneling allows users to selectively pass traffic through the VPN, while allowing exclusion for those apps/services which require direct internet access (without VPN).

Provides other advanced features such as protection from DDoS attacks, as well as safer-downloads using its threat-detection technology. Extensive compatibility allows the VPN to be used on Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, PS4, Kodi, Roku, xBox, Routers, and most other modern devices which support a VPN.

ProsCons
  • Modern Interface.
  • Split Tunneling
  • Supports most devices/OS.
  • Download + DDoS + DNS Leak protection.
  • No Multi-Hop.
  • IVPN

Website: https://www.ivpn.net/

best VPN services in the world

IVPN is actually a lot more feature rich than most other options listed above. For starters, it offers a choice of 31 countries and 44 Exit nodes. Then it offers Multi-Hop, one of my personal favorite VPN features.

A total of 5 Simultaneous connections are supported for each IVPN account. It doesn’t only “claim” a No-Logs policy, but also had it independently verified. The full report can be downloaded as well and reports that it truly doesn’t collect any logs whatsoever. No IP addresses, connection history, DNS records are stored.

An e-mail ID is all that’s required. Extremely anonymous payment methods such as Cash and Cryptocurrencies are accepted, along with Fiats. It not only offers an in-built ads/tracker blocker, but also features a “Hardcore mode“. When enabled, all and any connection/scripts from popular privacy intruders (Google, Facebook) etc. are blocked.

Also allows P2P (on non-US servers). The bandwidth has no limitations/restrictions either. It’s based out of Gibraltar. Is compatible with Mac, Windows, Android/iOS Devices, NAS, Routers and Linux. Linux however needs manual setup (guide offered).

OpenVPN, IPSec and WireGuard are the offered connection Protocols. Offers 256 Bit +4096 Bit RSA Encryption. 3-Day Trial offered. Privately owned servers ensures DNS requests do not leak. Kill-Switch, connection-masking using Obfuscation are some other available features.

ProsCons
  • Multi-Hop.
  • Proven “No Logs Policy“.
  • Anti-Tracker.
  • Hide.me

Website: https://hide.me/en/software/windows

best vpn services

Hide.me isn’t a new player in the game, it has been here for some time. Although it has far more impressive features than sheer experience.

Let’s start with its lifetime free VPN service. A data transfer limit of 500MB is allowed for every 2 weeks, with unlimited renewal possibilities. Than, it doesn’t require any registrations or signup further enforcing anonymity.

As for locations, 57 countries with a total of 1400 servers are available for selection. It supports as many as 7 encryption protocols. Namely, PPTP, SoftEther, IKEv1/2, SSTP, PPTP, and L2TP/IPSec.  It truly is a “No Log” VPN and has been independently verified to be so by Leon Juranic from DefenseCode.  Neither the browsing behavior, usage history, nor any other personally identifiable data is logged or stored.

Its stealth-guard forces certain apps (or the entire device) to connect to internet only via a VPN. Hence connectivity is only possible when the VPN is active ensuring anonymity.

It not only support IPv6 but also protects against accidental leaks. It also supports simultaneous connections up to 10 devices at a time! Kill-switch and Split-tunneling too are available. It’s available for Windows, Mac, Android, Linux, iOS etc.

ProsCons
  • 10 Simultaneous connections.
  • Verified No logs Policy.
  • Many encryption protocols.
  • Lifetime free version available.
  • No plans except the monthly plan available.
  • VyprVPN

best VPN services 2020

Vypr VPN offers everything that we’d expect from the best VPN services in 2020, and then some. For starters, its “Chameleon” protocol is designed specifically to infiltrate even the strongest of networks. Then, it’s one of the rarest of VPNs which have proven their No-logs policy via third-party audits.

One of its primary selling point is its streaming-capabilities. While not all VPNs fit a streamer’s needs, Vypr VPN does. It not only unblocks blocked streaming services/content, but also offers unlimited bandwidth & speed to facilitate streaming.

A total of 5 devices can be connected simultaneously. It also boasts servers in 70+ countries offering a varied IP-selection. A kill-switch is available to auto-terminate connections in case of emergencies as well. The available protocols include PPTP, OpenVPN, and L2TP/IPsec. 5 Simultaneous connections are allowed.

Its device & OS support is extensive, Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Routers, Smart TVs, Blackphone, Anonabox and most other platforms are supported.

ProsCons
  • 5 Simultaneous connections.
  • Streaming possible.
  • Verified No-logs policy.
  • May be a bit pricey.
  • TunnelBear

Website: https://www.tunnelbear.com/

TunnelBear isn’t the best VPN out there (yet), however, it sure is a VPN that’ll fulfill your IP-changing needs if that’s all you need.

It supports both IKEv2 and OpenVPN protocols. However, IKEv2 is limited to Windows and iOS only. OpenVPN is the only protocol available on its macOS and Android apps. The encryption obviously is 256-bit.

It supports 5 simultaneous connections on any of its paid plans. It does have a kill-switch which is termed “Vigilant Mode”. A total of 23 countries are available and can be chosen from.

The “no log” policy does exist. Moreover, it also claims to update an annual, independent security audit of its apps. Note that back in 2018 it did have a number of security flaws which have since been fixed (as the company claims.)

The speed is nowhere near what NordVPN or ExpressVPN provide. However, it’s enough for basic browsing or low-quality streaming.

There’s also a stealth mode which is called “Ghost Bear”. It lets you mask the VPN traffic and make it look non-VPN hence granting you more access.

ProsCons
  • 5 devices
  • Free plan available
  • Independent security audits
  • “Ghost Bear” feature
  • Speed isn’t impressive.

Which is The Best VPN Service in the world?

NordVPN.

Nordvpn Holiday DealsSure, every other VPN listed is equally worthy of the title. However, NordVPN has more than one benefits over the other VPNs on this list. There are some very direct, provable and specific reasons why I think NordVPN is better.

For starters, its industry’s first, and one of the very few VPNs to have an independently verified No-logs policy. This means, it truly doesn’t store logs. While, there have been cases of other VPNs “claiming” to not store logs, but they actually do.

Then, NordVPN is the fastest VPN I’ve ever used. You can read my NordVPN review for proof and details. It recently brought in the WireGuard protocol. It facilitates extremely fast speed, while making sure none of the security, privacy or anonymity is compromised.

Then, it offers “Onion over VPN” servers. Almost no other VPN offer this. This lets you access the dark web, or the Onion network in general without the TOR browser.

The “Double VPN” protocol too is rare among VPNs. This routes your traffic not once, but “twice” for double the encryption and security.

And lastly but most importantly, it’s based in Switzerland. We all know how privacy-friendly the nation is, don’t we?

But, without doubt, Express VPN is my second recommendation if for some reason you aren’t going with NordVPN.

How to Choose the Best VPN Services in The World?

We’ve enlisted quite a few options, and we’d be expanding this list with time as well. But there are certain factors which we keep in mind while selecting a VPN. Paying attention to these would help you pick the one VPN which suits your needs best.

  • “Audited” No-logs policy: Never go with a VPN which isn’t upfront about its logs policy. Additionally, make it a preference to select those VPNs which have their no-logs policy audited by independent third-parties. NordVPN is the industry’s first-ever VPN to go through an independent audit and come out clean.
  • Jurisdiction: Go with companies located outside of the US/UK or other heavily-censored countries. (Panama, Switzerland, Netherlands etc. are good options).
  • Cryptocurrency payments: If anonymity is your top-most priority, only select those companies which accept payments via Bitcoin or other Cryptocurrencies.
  • Security protocols: Make sure adequate security protocols are offered.
  • Simultaneous connections: Go with VPNs offering atleast 3 or more simultaneous connections.
  • Mobile support: Select VPNs offering standalone iOS and Android apps.
  • Other important features: Double-hop/Multi-hop, Kill-switch, protection over onion network, long list of available country-options.
  • Optionally, VPNs capable of unblocking Netflix and other streaming services seem like a good option.

Is Using a VPN illegal?

Short answer, no. VPNs are mostly legal. They simply encrypt your traffic, and provide you with a temporary IP-address. This act by itself isn’t illegal. However, if you get involved in an illegal activity while using the VPN, you still are committing a crime. In other words, the VPN doesn’t change the legality of a situation, if your act is illegal it’s illegal both with and without a VPN.

Illegal activities include buying/selling on Darknet markets, hacking, copyright violations etc. However note that, in some countries such as Iraq, North Korea, Turkmenistan, Belarus etc. Additionally, in countries such as China, Uganda, Oman, UAE and quite a few other censor-loving countries, usage of VPN is highly monitored and censored.

If you’re wondering if it’s illegal to use VPN for Netflix and other streaming services, No, it isn’t.  A VPN can be used to unblock or access restricted content on these services.

Sure, the streaming companies take the required steps to prevent this from happening. But, even if you get detected using a VPN you wouldn’t be facing any legal consequences. In some cases, even though it hasn’t happened so far these streaming service may technically ban/suspend your account temporarily or permanently.

Long story short, no using a VPN isn’t illegal unless you’re in a county where  it’s explicitly banned by law.

VPNs are Expensive. Can’t I Just Use Free, Cheaper Proxies?

No, you can’t.

If you’ve searched for the best VPN services in the world, you clearly are someone who loves anonymity and privacy.

Well, “proxies” do not exactly offer the anonymity that VPNs do.

For starters, Proxies do not offer no-logs policy as transparent as most VPNs.

So, you never know if your logs are truly “not stored”.

While with a VPN like NordVPN, it has been independently proven that this specific VPN at the least doesn’t store logs.

Moreover, proxies only mask your IP address.

There isn’t a lot of encryption you can benefit from.

Hence, proxies are easier to hack into or snoop on as compared to VPNs.

Furthermore, proxies will only mask your IP address for the specific browser you’re using.

They do not affect other software, browsers or applications running on your system.

A VPN on the other hand protects everything on your system.

If you simply need to unlock a blocked website, a proxy may do just fine.

But, if you wish to be anonymous, protect your browsing habits and make sure the govt. or other third-parties can’t trace/track you, a VPN is the way to go.

How to Stay Anonymous When Buying VPNs?

A VPN can only keep you safe once you’ve purchased it, and are using it. But, what of your activities up to the moment you land on the VPN website?  Also, there are a few logs which the VPN still keeps (for billing and support purposes).

Point is, you can add one more layer of protection to your identity even before you get to the VPN website. Doing this will ensure your ISP never knows you ever even landed on the VPN.

So, get yourself an anonymous E-mail ID. You can use Protonmail or Tutanota for the purpose. This will make sure you do not have to share your real E-mail with the VPN. This also protects you from spam and promotional matarials.

Secondly, use TOR browser instead of your general browsers when visiting the VPN website. This makes sure your ISP doesn’t know of your intentions.

Third, use Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoins to pay for your VPN. Even if you ignore the other two steps, this is of utmost importance in any case. Only then you can be 100% anonymous.
